Jennifer developed a passion for the landscape through her travels, solidifying a belief that beautiful space can transform lives, tell a story and capture our imagination. When we become invested in a place, whether it’s our home garden, a favorite neighborhood park or a stunning urban street, we come back to these places over and over again – creating memories and building community. For twelve years, Jennifer has sought this perfect marriage of people and place through the practice of landscape architecture.
A native of the northwest, Jennifer was born and raised in Bellevue, WA. She received her B.A. in English Literature from Whitman College in 1993. After college she taught English in China, worked for Seattle’s Experience Music Project during its development stage and was a producer/editor for MSN.com. She received her Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of California Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design in 2002.
Jennifer was a designer and project manager for several San Francisco-based landscape architecture firms, including Marta Fry Landscape Associates, EDAW/AECOM San Francisco and Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture. In Austin she has worked for Ten Eyck Landscape Architects & Root Design Company. To view her previous and current projects, see the projects page (coming soon) and her resume.
Jennifer started JKLA in Austin, TX to continue her passion for helping people create unique home gardens, valued neighborhood parks, beautiful streetscapes and sophisticated urban spaces at a range of project scales and budgets.
Jennifer is a registered landscape architect in Texas (TX Lic. #2909) and California (CA Lic. # 5665).
